Trip to california and...

Hi

We%26#39;re planning an 18 day holiday to California/Nevada. We%26#39;re flighing into San Francisco (to stay for 3-4 days) and have a list of other places that we%26#39;d like to visit on our trip. They are

San Fran

Yosemite

Las Vegas

Monument Valley

Grand Canyon

Bryce Canyon

If anyone has any advice on a route/flights (or whether this is a bit too ambitious, with too much driving) that would be very much appreciated. Thanks

California is much bigger than you think it is.

Your better off spending your 4 days in SF then going over to Yosemite, Then drving down Highway 1( the Coast to Santa Cruz/ Monterey) Spending a day or so looking around the area visit San Jaun Bautista while your there. Then continue down the Coast to the Santa Barabra area. Look around there...then Continue on down to LA ( Look around HollyWood if you want) From there go over to Las Vegas...Then The Grand Canyon. When you are in LV make sure you take a swing past Hoover Dam.

The Distances are much further than anything youj are used too and you don%26#39;t want to waste all of your time driving. The Grand Cayon in itself will take days if you want to do even minimal hiking. If you are going in the Summer or Spring Southern Cal and Nevada will be HOT.

I agree with the first post. California is big. When we were driving South to North, that can even take a whole day and a half to just get to the Oregon border(and that%26#39;s just from LA). I agree that Yosemite is a must visit, my husband%26#39;s first trip there just a few months ago and he fell in love with the place, it%26#39;s absolutely gorgeous and one of the places in the world where it%26#39;s still peaceful when away from the crowds. I%26#39;d also take the coastal route from SF to LA via PCH 1 depending when you are coming, spend some time in the Central California Coast. And then drive to Santa Barbara and possibly visit Solvang. If you visit LA, visit Santa Monica, Malibu, Beverly Hills, Hollywood/West Hollywood, and/or get a chance to visit beautiful Laguna Beach in Orange County. My in-laws are staying with us for a month and just loved Laguna Beach. It%26#39;s one of the most beautiful beaches they%26#39;ve seen. If you can go further South, visit San Diego, which is another nice destination. Las Vegas is nice, but for me 2 or 3 nights is enough and after that I%26#39;m ready to get back home.

I think it%26#39;s maybe a bit ambitious. I don%26#39;t know if you can make it to Bryce in an 18 day vacation. It is a lot of driving.. Either way, have fun and a great vacation!

after looking at your list, i%26#39;m not sure los angeles would interest you enough to take valuable vacation time to do it.

yosemite i would definitely keep. from vegas, i believe the grand canyon is about a 6 hour drive.

weather/time of year will be a factor in the routes you take as well. these places can get pretty cold.
