I will be in San Francisco in October and would like to hire a car, preferably an SUV for 5 days. I will need to collect the car in San Francisco, but drop it off in Las Vegas.
Can anyone suggest a car rental company that does not charge a one way drop off fee?
Many thanks in advance
Car Hire from San Francisco to Las Vegas
I think they are all going to have a drop off fee. Just build that into the cost and shop around and find the best overall deal.
Car Hire from San Francisco to Las Vegas
The only way we have managed this is by picking up and dropping off at an airport,SFO is easily reached via BART and LAS is pretty much in the MGM car park. I have always used Alamo but most of the car hire firms are much the same. We have done this trip a couple of times in the last few years and have found the drive via Yosemite and Death Valley to be the best sightseeing route.
Thanks so much for the advice, I%26#39;ll shop around!
Check with National Car Rental while you%26#39;re shopping around. I seem to remember ages ago, when I was looking to rent a car National was the one I found where I was able to avoid drop-off fees but it might have been one of those situations where the drop off location might have been a high-volume rental site with traffic going back in the direction I%26#39;d come from...
I did this in April/May. I booked my car through airlinenetwork.co.uk who are agents for Dollar. In April they were doing a special offer of zero one-way drop off for California/Nevada rentals from the UK.
Shop around - deals vary from time to time.
I have it on good advice that your best bet is to arrange it through the UK%26#39;s own allstatescarhire.com before you leave.
I read in the local (Sydney) paper that Aus travellers to the US are booking through them. I%26#39;ve just sent them an email along these lines and am awaiting a response.
Apparently their prices and service are excellent.

I have just booked my car hire through www.yescarhire.com They are a uk based company and we hired a SUV for 7 days through them and saved 拢70+ on the cost. When we got the confirmation through, the car is supplied by Alamo. Go for their gold service it includes all taxes, and a free tank of petrol and only costs a few quid more. As for pick up and drop offs there are several points in both cities where you can collect/drop off and they don%26#39;t seem to charge for one way drop off. Enjoy your trip !
Hey Nattravel, I am doing the exact same thing as you in October. Like the a previous poster stated, I was able to avoid the one-way drop fee by picking SFO as the pick-up location. I went with Avis, and I will be dropping the car off at the Aladdin Hotel right on the Las Vegas strip.
You should be able to make your reservation on Avis.com directly (that%26#39;s how I did mine). My rates are about $80 with taxes included, but I did not pick an SUV so I don%26#39;t know how much yours will come up to, especially for a 5-day rental.
