where to stay in union square

There are a number of good hotels in Union Square that I am sure many people will recommend. We stayed at the Hotel Monaco (about a 2 block walk down Geary from Union Square) last April and loved it! They treated us really well and have great rooms.

That said, we also considered the Westin St. Francis for our stay but got a better price deal from the Monaco.

We stayed at the Chancellor Hotel on Union Square last October and found it very much to our liking and is certainly worth checking it out. It has very positive comments and is well managed and friendly staff. Also as jet lagged Brits you will welcome the 24hr FREE coffee, tea and cookies available in reception.

I think October is regarded as having the best weather and we had sun and warmth every day during our stay at that time.

Enjoy your stay.

What are you looking for in a hotel on Union Square? There is everything from budget hotels to luxury. Some good choices so far, but at different levels.

yep we have checked out the chancellor and it seems to have received good reviews and its central, glad to hear oct is good time of year as regards weather, we get enough rain in ireland!!

thanks

Check out the Clift hotel on Geary and of course the St. Francis. The Hyatt on Union square is a great location as well.

I am so glad to hear that you are coming to SF for your honeymoon. I was in Ireland this past May to attend a wedding and I fell in love with your magical country and all of you lovely Irish lads!

Have a great wedding and Honeymoon!

we stayed at the Handlery Union square in a club room, good sized room and bathroom a and is seconds away from Union square...

I believe september/october is best time for San Francisco...

Wes Tyler, we are looking for something thats comfortable, clean and central. Union square seems to be the place to go! We were also looking at THE ARGENT HOTEL, has anyone stayed there?

The Argent is a very nice new place in the Cannery. I recomend it, with 1 minor drawback. Some of the rooms bathroom window faces the street and sicne the street is on a hill, your bathroom window is at about eye level with bars on it. Not all the rooms are this way, just the ones with the window facing out on Beach St.

I would recommend the Pan Pacific if you want a newer hotel with larger rooms. I think the price is very reasonable in my opinion and I do think their staff is excellent. They are kind of a luxury hotel without the hefty price tag of the Four Seasons. Granted, it isn%26#39;t as luxurious either, but as a self proclaimed hotel snob, I would have no problem with staying at the Pan Pacific. Location is good, it%26#39;s a block away from Union Square and the cable car line.

The Argent is actually in Third St at Market.

I have not stayed there for around 20 years so I cannot advise on recent situation.

If a ';newer'; style hotel is more what you are after then perhaps consider Grand Hyatt or Pan Pacific which are located much closer to central Union Square area.
