I%26#39;m trying to plan our hotel requirements for our trip. We%26#39;re planning to drive from LA to GC on a saturday morning using I15 then I40. Am I being optomistic in thinking this will take about 8 hours? Is it too far to drive in a day and if so, can you suggest somewhere worthwhile to stop at enroute? We%26#39;re only visiting for 2 weeks so we haven%26#39;t got a lot of time to spare unfortunately. Your advice would be much appreciated!
LA to Grand Canyon
Hi Foss4,
According to mapquest, it takes about 7 + 1/2 hrs. without stopping to get from Los Angeles to the Grand Canyon. However, this doesn%26#39;t take into account any traffic you may encounter, which could delay your arrival up to an hour later.
I think if you%26#39;re short on time, you could do this trip, and if you left in the early morning you%26#39;d probably avoid much of the traffic leaving Los Angeles. Places to stop for refreshments on the way include Barstow and Needles in CA and Kingman and Williams in Arizona. If you have kids, they may get restless as the drive is mostly through bland desert territory. The Mojave desert is really not that bland and worth exploring but jsut driving past it on the freeway makes it seem boring after a while! Also, make sure your car has plenty of coolant as it can get hot out there! Enjoy your trip!
LA to Grand Canyon
The drive is achievable. When we did this trip we left Anaheim at 9:00am and arrived at the Grand Canyon at 5:30pm, 8 1/2 hours.
We didn%26#39;t stop much in between. 45 minutes at Barstow, 20 minutes at Needles, 30 minutes at Kingman for a late lunch.
