casual dinner near union sqaure, North beach on a Sunday...

Hi,

I%26#39;m arriving around 7 this Saturday night and was hoping for a good casual restaurant suggestion near union square. We eat anything….but especially like Asian and healthy fare. Are there any good bars in the area to grab a drink after dinner? Also, we are planning on going to north beach on Sunday…will most things be open?

Thinking about heading to Bernal heights for a more local experience…do you think it’s a worthwhile trip..can you name any breakfast spots there?

THANKS for any and all responses!!

Yes, most things will be open on North Beach on Sunday.

Bernal Heights is a good neighborhood to go to. I like it a lot. It%26#39;s really out of the way though. If you%26#39;re there, go to Liberty Cafe for breakfast or for any other meal.

There are a handful of restaurants toward the northern base of Bernal Heights on Precita. There are more on the west side, along Mission Street. You%26#39;ll find a good sampling of Mexican, Thai, Cambodian, plain old pizza restaurants, too. Haven%26#39;t gone there for a while, so hopefully someone who lives there or goes there will post. It%26#39;s a pleasant little neighborhood, though I don%26#39;t think you%26#39;ll find any places to eat on the ';heights'; part of Bernal Heights.

Here%26#39;s a bit of a sleeper suggestion for Union Square. The Siam Restaurant, on the backside of the Parc 55 Hotel, is a family owned joint. You can enter through the hotel or through the door on Ellis Street at Mason Street. They have a decent selection of dishes and even have a Thai few dishes made with noodles we associate with Italian food, like spaghetti (Hey, noodles are noodles, right?). I used to eat there with work colleagues sometimes when we were looking for places close by where we could have a conversation and good food without spending a lot of money. They%26#39;re only slightly more expensive than the surrounding ethnic restaurants (including their own Siam Cafe across the street) without the hole-in-the-wall atmosphere.
