Well if you don%26#39;t need anything fancy you should cross off your first 3 choices. Chateau du Sureau in particular is high end fancy. Ahwahnee is highest end inside the park.

In the park, stay at Yosemite Lodge. We stayed there in April with our two kids and our room was remarkably large and comfortable. In the past we have also stayed at Tenaya Lodge and we really like it. It%26#39;s near the south entrance and many condier it too far from the valley. Apple Tree is right next door to the Tenaya Lodge and Narrow Gauge is a very short distance from it.

yeah, chateau du sureau...that%26#39;s a special event type of place. even the name says ';fancy';.

i%26#39;ve stayed at the comfort inn in oakhurst and was happy, even got a deal on priceline. it%26#39;s about 15-20 minutes outside the park. got a free continental breakfast. it%26#39;s clean and was very basic, which was what i wanted.

There are a number of affordable, clean choices for those traveling with children along the Highway 120 entrance to Yosemite. Check out www.Yosemite-Lodgings.com for additional details and links.

Have a marvelous holiday, where ever you choose to stay.

I%26#39;d stay as close to the valley as you can get:

Yosemite Lodge or Curry Village

After that Cedar Lodge

My family of four stayed at the Falcon%26#39;s Nest which is part of the Peregrine B and B in Yosemite West. We found it to be affordable and convenient, only about a 20 minute drive to the valley.

If you are looking for an old fashioned Yosemite experience, you should seriously consider Camp Curry. We just spent a week there in a delux cabin. It had a bathroom, two double beds, and a large closet. It was cleaned daily along with clean towels daily. Fresh sheets every other day with the beds made daily. It is in no way luxurious, but it is a unique fun way to stay right in the park, close to everything. There is a store, pizza place, bar, buffet, icecream/coffee shop at curry--making it very easy to get your basic needs met. It feels like it hasn%26#39;t changed much in the last 70 years--like going back in time. There is a large pool, ranger lectures every night, and lots of free classes and events in the park. The shuttle can take you all around the village--so you can still go have a high end meal at the other lodges if you like. They also have tent cabins that are very rustic for those of you into adventure without having to put up your own tent. I just loved the history of curry and the feeling that I was able to get a little taste of how it used to be.

PS-Yes we saw bears and the deer are just plain bold and walking through camp all day. The squirrels are darling, but please don%26#39;t feed them--they become really pesty if you do.

We have just returned from 3 days at the Yosemite Lodge. As a family of 5 we managed to fit ok in one of the rooms (including a rollaway) and I would strongly recommend you stay in the park itself. It is a tiring drive from outside the park just to get to the valley floor. It might be more expensive but will be worth it.

One tip I would give is take the dinner option ($12 adult) buffet at Curry village - very good value and variety and kids seem to love it.

Have a great time.
