Family Holliday 1 day free

We will be in Aneheim in September have the three day pass to disneyland. We have a 14 and 11 year old and have a free day was thinking maybe another theme park or any other suggestions around the area that the children would like

I would think that since your children are 14 %26amp; 11, Universal Studios would be the perfect day trip. There are bus companies that can take you there. Also, if you go there, consider getting their ';Front of the Line'; Pass. It%26#39;s a little more expensive, but if you only have one day it will give you a better chance of getting on the rides that you reall want to go on.

Universal Studios is a really good idea and your children are the perfect age for it.

They have some good rides, Jurassic Park and ET to name a few, and really good action-packed shows. However, I think the unique thing about Universal Studios is the Back Lot Tour and if you go, you cannot miss it.

This tour takes you for a ride through actual studio sets that have been used in movies. It also lets you experience some special movie effects. It is really neat and a lot of fun. I have never seen any actual movies being filmed but there are large studios on site and filming does occur here on site.

On the way to the Back Lot Tour, there is a neat mural with what looks like a highway guard rail in front of it. The mural is of the Hollywood Hills with the ';Hollywood sign'; on them. It is a really neat place to take a picture and some people have actually thought my picture was really taken in front of the actual Hollywood sign.

Universal Studios is quite spread out and in addition to crowds, can take a while to walk through. I have never used the Front of the Line Pass but I think it sounds like a great idea too and am considering using it when I go again. Unfortunately, my kids are still too young for Universal Studios.

Another consideration if your children love rollercoasters is Six Flags Magic Mountain. I don%26#39;t know if you have any amusement parks that specialize in rollercoasters where you come from but if you don%26#39;t and your children like rollercoasters, this place can%26#39;t be beat!

They have the most incredible rollercoasters and many of them!

Their hours and days open really vary if it is not the summer, spring break etc. so that may be a consideration for you.

Both of these places are not in Anaheim and will require a car or a tour bus to get there. If a car is an option, I prefer this as it will be less expensive and you have a lot more flexibility with regard to the times you arrive and leave.

My suggestion is to visit both of their websites and see for yourself what they have to offer. Their websites are:

…universalstudios.com/hollywood/website/park… and

http:www.sixflags.com/parks/magicmountain/index.asp

Hope this helps and be sure to tell us all what you decide!

You might consider doing a Medieval Times dinner show while you are at Anaheim. We are going in Sept too and are going to do Disney, Knotts Berry Farm, Universal,Medieval Times and Legoland. There are tours to Universal from Anaheim, ask at your hotel, apparently. Someone else on the forum said that Universal isn%26#39;t so crowded in Sept after the first week because their school have started. So maybe a front of line pass will not be necessary if you%26#39;re on a budget. You can get discounts to Universal at a lot of places. Search the previous posts. If I can find it I will bump it for you. We can%26#39;t wait!!

An alternative to the theme parks would be a water park. We recently went to one whilst holidaying in Anaheim. It was great fun, still plenty of action but also gave us weary mums %26amp; dads a chance to rest our weary feet after days of walking. The Block at Orange is a good place to visit for shopping, they have indoor dark crazy golf place which is fun and not expensive. Everything is glow in the dark. They also have an indoor skate park you can hire everything you need. Also they have numerous places to eat and a large cinema complex.

Unfortunately most of the water parks shut down, or run weekends only starting in Sept. Check first before you go!

If it were me, I%26#39;d do two of my three days at Disneyland, then do something different, then go back for my third day. And the free day I would use for something a bit more relaxing than another theme park... I really think I would just go find a beach! Newport Beach was always a favorite place for us to go when I was younger. Maybe in September the water will be too cold, I don%26#39;t know. I just think you%26#39;re going to be wishing for a little break from walking all over the place.

There is a really good thread on this topic... look in the Anaheim Forum and read the thread called ';What Else to Do in Anaheim';. Many good ideas there.
