Bart to Holiday Inn at Fisherman's Wharf

My family is traveling to San Francisco over Labor Day weekend and we had initally rented a car, but found out that parking was $30 a day so we are not just renting a car for the last day and using public transportation the rest of the time. Anyway, we were wondering the fastest route to get from SFO to Holiday Inn at Fisherman%26#39;s Wharf using Bart. I looked at the Bart website, but it didn%26#39;t help as I do not know the closest point to our hotel. Any help would be appreciated. We really enjoy this forum, a lot of good information.

Lovestt,

You should check out this web site:

http://transit.511.org/tripplanner/index.asp

It will tell you exactly how to get there. One important think to know is that SF is in Burlingame, not SF. That will help with your search.

I plugged in your parameters (1300 Columbus ave), and it looked pretty good. A bus to BART, then BART to the airport.

The reason you didn%26#39;t find anything like Fisherman%26#39;s Wharf on the BART site is that BART doesn%26#39;t go anywhere near FW. The bus ride is at least a mile. BART is a different system than SF MUNI, but they do connect in certain places.

Oops. Just realized that TripPlanner advises you take a cable car. Not so good. That would mean standing in line and lugging your bags on the cable car.

Maybe someone else will know of a bus that goes from that area (Columbus and Northpoint) to Market, where you could catch BART. (maybe the 30 Stockton?)

Sorry, I thought I was being SO helpful!

The transit will not be running as frequent on sunday and monday, but is operating. The 30 Stockton is kinda cattle call as many locals take that bus to Chinatown from 3rd St/ Kearny/ Market St. I would suggest the 10 Townsend which goes up Fremont St at Market and then snakes it%26#39;s way through the Financial District to North Point which I believe is where your hotel is. The 10 bus will probably only run every 20 minutes though. Exit BART at the Embarcadero Station for the 10 bus, exit Montgomery and walk one block to 3rd/ Kearny St for the 30 bus. The 30 bus has antenna poles and the 10 bus is a regular smelly diesel. $1.50 and transfer issued, exact change takes dollar bills, kids I think 50 cents.

Or exit BART at the Embarcadero station, and walk across the street to the classic trolley line that runs along the Embarcadero (waterfront). Just ask the driver to tell you when you%26#39;re as close as possible to the Holiday Inn. It should be about three or four short blocks from where she lets you off. So, you just have the one change between BART and the trolley, and the trolley ride is interesting. (This is public transportation, electric on rails, and not a tour company.)

These trolleys come from several places in the world, not just San Francisco, and have been renovated. If you are already packing so as to take public transportation, there shouldn%26#39;t be any problem with your gear.

Hi, it%26#39;s me again.

Firewind is talking about the ';F'; Market line, which goes all the way from the Castro to FW. It stops about 2 blocks from your hotel. You should notice it during your few days there, it%26#39;s pretty nice.

This is probably your most interesting/easiest/best bet.

yes, F line is an option, I%26#39;m just afraid of how crowded it will be and and luggage or large bags will be difficult. If you don%26#39;t mind transfering buses after the crowded area on the 30 Stockton, walk from the Embaracdero Station to Sacramento and Drumm, take the 45 Greenwich tolley bus to Union and Columbus, transfer buses to the 30 Stockton at the same stop. 30 Stockton runs very frequent, the 45 will be maybe 12 to 15 min intervals. Enjoy your trip.

Doesn%26#39;t sound like you%26#39;re lugging luggage if it%26#39;s your last day and you%26#39;re going from the hotel to FW for sightseeing. If you want to get a jump on the crowds on the F line you could also get off at the BART Civic Center stop, then catch the F line from there. As I recall, it picks up on the west side of 8th Street on Market. When you go back the other direction from FW, get off at the Embarcadero and take BART from there to your hotel. Your hotel may even have a BART shuttle, if they%26#39;re nice.

Man, I feel like an idiot. Misread your question. If you%26#39;re a family, it may be more economical for you to simply take a cab from the airport with luggage... Or ... take BART to the Embarcadero and then take a cab the shorter distance from the Embarcadero to your hotel at FW.

I agree that you should take BART to Embarcadero Station. Next to the Hyatt Embarcadero Hotel, you will find a line of waiting taxis. You should geet to your hotel for around $10 from there. Worth it to get settled and relaxed, I think.
