My husband and I are planning our first anniversary in SD. Neither of us have ever been and we would like to see the Zoo, Wild Animal Park, and Sea World while there for 4 days in early October. Since it is our anniversary, I%26#39;m torn between what type of hotel to choose and where!
-I%26#39;d love to stick my toes in the sand!
-I%26#39;d like a nice breakfast buffet in the morning
-I%26#39;d like to be w/in walking distance or a short drive to some good food. Not fancy, but not Denny%26#39;s
Should I choose a budget hotel like Super8 Bayview and forgo the romance of a nice hotel for location? Or spend more for a hotel with ambience even though I won%26#39;t be in the room that often.
Advice?
Thanks!

1st anniversary hotel recs - PLEASE :)The Crown Jewel of hotels - Hotel Del Coronado - our national historic landmark. Thomas Edison installed the first lights. You can stick your toes in the sand on the same beach that Marilyn Monroe filmed Some Like it Hot. Good places to eat in the hotel and Coronado.
I would suggest getting the 3 for 1 Pass - that will give you unlimited admission for 5 days to the Zoo, Wild Animal Park and Sea World. More info at the zoo%26#39;s website www.sandiegozoo.org. It%26#39;s a pretty good deal considering Sea World is $50 for 1 adult.
October is a great time to come. The vast majority of the tourists are gone, the weather is still good. I love going to the Wild Animal Park in the fall -very quiet and much cooler than the summer!
The Wild Animal Park has a Photo Caravan in which you ride in the back of a keeper%26#39;s truck right into the animal exhibits. Not cheap, but worth every penny. You get to feed giraffes and rhinos and get some great photo ops. Check the Zoo%26#39;s website or you can call the Park for more information. I%26#39;ve done 4 of them and they are fun!
1st anniversary hotel recs - PLEASE :)See if the La Jolla Best Western is within your price range
Its a good location for restaurants; walking distance to the ocean; and includes a continental breakfast. Lots of shops, museums around in this ara. La Jolla is good location as Wild Animal Park is North; Sea World and Zoo is within easy driving distance. Its not the ';ritz'; but the price is reasonable for the area (not sure if its in your budget range you%26#39;re looking for) but thought I%26#39;d mention. Happy Anniversary!
ps: My favorite place to stay in San Diego too is Hotel del Coronado (so if in the budget and plans) stay there.
My mention was if you wanted a place more of a ';motel'; line in an excellen location. Enjoy and again Happy Anniversary!
If it were my anniversary, I would also pick the Hotel del Coronado, there%26#39;s just nothing else like it. For an anniversary, you also might enjoy Hotel Parisi La Jolla for in-room massages though. But hands down, Hotel del would be the best choice in my opinion, and Coronado is a great place for romantic walks, on the beach or down Orange Avenue.
