Does anyone know of a good Italian restaurant or any other type that%26#39;s good on Union Street? It will be for dinner.
restaurant on Union Street
Best one on Union might be Betelnut (not Italian)

You could try Perry%26#39;s or Home or Plumpjack on Fillmore at Union, also not Italian
For Italian, I would go to Chestnut St. 3 blocks north of Union.

Another Italian place on Union Street is Prego.
Rose%26#39;s Cafe on Union Street is good, too. It is the sister restaurant of Rose Pistola of Columbus Ave. Good food!
I usually eat at Betelnut too, as another post suggested.
I second the recommendation for E Angelo on Chestnut Street. It%26#39;s a small family run authentic Italian Restaurant, very good!
I just got back today %26amp; ate at Perry%26#39;s last night. Great food. I had the warm lobster roll entree %26amp; we had the crab cakes as an appetizer. Food was excellent %26amp; a great atmosphere. We got lucky %26amp; got to sit outside at the tables %26amp; people watch. I would definitely recommend this restraunt to anyone.

I can also highly recommend E-Angelo, but it is about a 5-10 min walk from Union St.
A-16 is overhyped overpriced and rude. The pizza is no good unless you like really really thin crust with foo-foo toppings. And that is their speciality dish! You would be better off at Amici%26#39;s on Union. Or if you really like thin crust then California Pizza Kitchen.
Boraxo,
Tell me about A16. I was gonna eat there really soon. So it%26#39;s overrated? How was the price for a pizza and everything else? Anything else you try there? Is it crowded all the time. Any info would be great.
This was our A-16 experience: we had a reservation for Friday 10pm, we show up early they say sorry, no tables yet, ok, we understand, so we wait until 10:15 and finally get our table. Right after we are seated they tell us that they are out of pizza. Can you imagine, this is their signature ';dish'; that was written up in all the reviews, and they have no more dough? On a prime night? After waiting 45 min? So we made a reservation to return Sunday and bailed.
Sunday night, no problems, we are seated right away, but service was rather slow and indifferent. As for the pizza, well, I got into a long discussion with another reviewer about it. If you like big thick crust pizza, or Chicago deep dish pie, something with real dough, then A-16 is not for you. Also if you like real toppings, fresh vegetables and meat like pepperoni, A-16 is not for you. In SF I order delivery from the Front Room on California St @ Larkin, am never disappointed. Now that%26#39;s a good pie!
Anyway, A-16 makes very very thin crust pizza. Thinner than CPK (CA pizza kitchen, which I really like, too). And instead of getting great toppings, the choices are very limited and IMO not appropriate for pizza (and remember I like CPK so I%26#39;m into creative toppings).
All that being said, the best thing about A-16 is the wine selection. Like Bacar, they have 100s of bottle served by the glass, and the sommellier is really knowledgeable. So my advice would be to sit at the bar, order a glass, and maybe an appetizer (though the one we ordered was a minuscule portion). If you decide to eat there definitely get a reservation or you will be waiting a long long time.
