Can anyone suggest a few places to eat I will be going to SF in september 21-25 Local Neighborhood ethnic places to eat the more unusal off the beaten path the better. Ethiopian, Vietnamese, Thai. Then some good standard fare like the tadich grill ( was there last year loved the old style ambiance and the food was great) I tried to get reservations for gary dankos for one nice night out forget it already booked! How about the cliff house is it really worth the trip from union square? Was also thinking about a sunset dinner cruise under the bridge but not buffett style food something a little more romantic/slightly upscale.

Very generally speaking, you can go to the Mission for ethnic restaurants and get quite a variety. You can also go to the Tenderloin, also, and get a good selection of Vietnamese and Indian. O%26#39;Farrell and Jones is considerered the ';Tandoorloin,'; so to speak, with a nexus of Indian/Pakistani restaurants of varying degrees of attention to decor, but all with food I love to eat.
I haven%26#39;t been on a Hornblower Yachts cruise for quite a while --perhaps a decade -- so I have no idea of what they are offering in the dinner cruise category, nor who their competitors are. They are awfully nice, though.
For upscale, if you can%26#39;t get into Gary Danko%26#39;s, try Boulevard. There are others that fellow foodie posters will happily steer ou to.

Girasol,
So you%26#39;ve tried that Al Masri Restaurant before? I%26#39;ve always walked by it and wondered if anyone has eaten there before. And I%26#39;m also curious about the belly dancing (just the fact that a restaurant would have it LOL). How was the whole experience and food?
The owner of Al Masri is actually a neighbor of mine. He%26#39;s, naturally from Egypt, and has taken great pains to serve authentic dishes. We went a couple of times and enjoyed it. It is a unique experience, especially with the belly dancing. Don%26#39;t forget some tip money for the dancer. She has no pockets of course, so you tuck it in her costume. This felt a bit weird, but you get used to it.
