Which should we fly in to? We are planning on staying 3 days in San Francisco and then getting a rental car (most like from the airport) and driving to Napa for a couple of days. Which airport is most convenient for this? How far away is each to San Francisco and Napa? Thanks.
San Francisco airport or oakland airport?
Oakland is closer to Napa than SFO....(its only a minor difference...perhaps 20-30 minutes). As such, the primary factor in deciding is: Price of Airline Ticket and also price of rental car....).
The drive is little over an hour to 90 minues dependent on part on traffic from Oakland.
San Francisco airport or oakland airport?
As Mini has said, the choice of airlines (convenience of flight times, ticket prices) will determine whether you fly into Oakland or San Fran. However, if you%26#39;re lucky enuf to have a real choice, I%26#39;d pick Oakland since it%26#39;s less crowded and getting in and out less of a hassle (normally) than SFO.
The real choice is either Oakland (if not during commute hours) or Sacramento. Sac is a little farther awary, however its a much smaller airport with easier in and out and a lot less traffic. If its during commute hours sac is by far easier for coming and going. Hope this helps.
Thanks all! The best deal I found was on Southwest flying in to Oakland so i%26#39;ve booked that.

Sacramento is farthest away. Oakland is closest.
We live in the town of Napa, and have flown in/out of all three airports (SFO, OAK, and SMF). We have timed each of the trips:
-Oakland Airport to Napa: 90 min +/- 40 min
-San Fran Airport to Napa: 90 min +/- 40 min
-Sacramento Airport to Napa: 90 min +/- 15-20 min
The +/- is due to commute traffic snarls.
Napa to Sacto airport is much longer on Friday afternoons, esp on holiday weekends (add up to 1+ hrs).
As everyone else has noted, since the travel time is the same, getting the lowest airfare (or best connections) should be the determining factors.
Enjoy your trip to the wine country!

Oops-
The 40 min. and 15-20 min. above is *added* to the time, never subtracted (so ';+';, not ';+/-';). The additional time is due to commute traffic.
In other words, the *fastest* travel time from any of the airports to the town of Napa is typically 90 minutes.

What about the difference between Oakland Airport and Union Square, versus SFO and Union Square?
travelingfromtexas - (i%26#39;m traveling from texas too!)
I looked up those distances. according to maps on google. OAK to union square is about 20 miles (32 minutes) and SFO to union square is about 14 miles (18 minutes).
We%26#39;re planning on taking the SuperShuttle from the airport to our hotel in union square. It%26#39;s $25 for the first persion $8 for the second from OAK and $15 first person, $8 second from SFO.
you can also take the BART, check out www.bart.gov for prices and schedules.
thanks jml5q! Do u know how to check out the taxi fares for each?
How much is the super shuttle if your 4 people?
