Hands down, the best is La Serenata de Garibaldi. Just take First Street east from downtown through Little Tokyo across the river under the freeway and just past the Gold Line construction at Mariachi Plaza. It is on the right. Neighborhood looks dumpy and is. You can park out front on the street or off the alley in the back. Excellent food.

Go.

Hi,

I have to agree with the poster above, The Loteria Grill, which is just a stand in Farmers Market, has some of the best Mexican food I%26#39;ve ever had. Plus, Farmers Market and The Grove are pretty nifty places.

My personal favorite is a little hole in the wall in a strip mall next to the USC campus called La Tequiza (located off Figueroa). They have the best Al Pastor I have ever had, and they serve mulitas, which singlehandedly got my wife through her pregnancy last summer. Many a night I found myself making the drive out there to satisfy a craving, usually hers. Keep in mind, there is little ambiance if that%26#39;s what your looking for, just good food.

There is another place call Tacos Pueblas in Pasadena, again located in a strip mall. Their Carnitas are perfect, moist, but still have a little crisp to them. Plus, their Horchata is second only to King Taco%26#39;s.

Hope this helps, damn, this post has really made me hungry!

Stephen

For the adventurous, here are a couple more hole-in-the-wall places I%26#39;d recommend.

1) 6th %26amp; Union -- Can%26#39;t remember the name, but it is memorably located in a tire dealership. (I%26#39;m not kidding.) Excellent carne asada. Pleasant patio out front on a real hot day.

2) 27th %26amp; San Pedro -- Tiny food stand next to the liquor store. They make amazing tortas. I love the Cubano. They have very odd hours (Fr/Sat/Sun 2-8 p.m.) and they close when they run out of fresh bread.

You%26#39;ll definitely want to drive to both these places.

HTH. Enjoy your trip.
