the Del, Glorietta Bay, or El Cordova?

We are planning a family visit in August. Staying with friends for a few days, but wanted to catch a night or 2 on Coronado. The reviews on the Del look mixed, GBI looks great but has a 3 night minimum. El Cordova looks interesting, with pretty good reviews. Any recommendations? We are a family of 3 - mom, dad %26amp; 11 year old daughter.

My two cents... We just stayed in San Diego and drove through Corronado during our stay. I was expecting to find the Glorietta situated in a better location.

I was shocked to see it on the main street and not very impressive. The website gives a different impression. It looked as though you parked right next to it like a motel and that street noise would be a bother.

I%26#39;d do either the Del, Loews or Marriot.. I don%26#39;t know what the El Cordova looks like.

But that is just my take. hth

Hotel del is the most historic hotel and is closest to the nicest beach area in Coronado. When the new owners came in a couple of years ago, their price structure caused some of the negative issues you continue to see. As a hotel itself and an experience, it is one of the nicest places to stay in Coronado. Its a great place to explore and the kids like the swimming pool there. Drinks outside with a view of the ocean is superb.... The issue is if its in the budget or not (it is THE issue in staying here or not as that will make it or break it for you. If is a stretch, choose another property.). The El Cordova is in a good location also for the beach - however, I don%26#39;t know much about the property itself.

The Loew%26#39;s Coronado Bay Resort is a very upscale hotel a couple of miles down ';The Strand'; from the Del Coronado. It gets four stars, and very good reviews. It%26#39;s an alternative.

But it%26#39;s not the Del Coronado. As you probably know, the Del has been one of the hotel icons of the United States for generations. So people have extremely high expectations, which may not be met vis a vis every feature of luxury today. No place is perfect, so some can say it%26#39;s past it%26#39;s glory days, but that said, the Del is really outstanding and it%26#39;s really something to stay ';right in the middle of it all';. Then, there are the bragging rights afterward, when you show people a picture and they say, ';Oh, THAT one!'; Actually, it seems like it all boils down to expectations and, as mini says, price.

Thanks so much for the advice. Sounds like I shouldn%26#39;t discount the Del based on the up %26amp; down reviews. Since it%26#39;s only 1 or 2 nights, we should probably just go ahead and spoil ourselves. Can%26#39;t wait!
