Because we are travelling with little ones, we wanted to break up our trip. We were thinking of staying in Pismo Beach one way but wanted to stay somewhere else on the way back. We considered Santa Barbara, but this is August and we didn%26#39;t want to break the bank on a hotel for one night. What do you think?
Place to stay between San Jose and San Deigo
What we like to do is take the coastal route one way and then come back the faster route (I-5) when returning. We like to stay at Harris Ranch if we want to break up the drive from Los Angeles to San Jose. Harris Ranch has a really large pool (great to swim in for the family); an excellent steak house; store; etc. We leave mid afternoon get there about 7:00 and have a nice evening of it.

If you decide to do the coastal route on the way back; I%26#39;d stay in San Luis Obispo at the Embassy Suites or better yet, try to find a place in MOrro Bay at one of the motels there.
