Coronado Island? Good location with a child?

We are considering a 7 day stay on Coronado Island but plan to visit the standard atrractions with a 9 year old (zoo, animal park, Sea World.) We also like to be able to choose from a variety of good restaurants. Are we better off staying in San Diego ';proper';? Or maybe splittng our stay between the city and the island?

Coronado is an excellent choice - it has the best beaches, a very safe, clean , quiet community - and right across the bay from downtown. You can easily get to downtown or other attractions from there, and it%26#39;s a great area to stay with lots of good restaurants. If you get tired of the many restaurants on Coronado, it%26#39;s a short ferry ride to downtown and all the choices there. I%26#39;d keep the 7 days on Coronado if it were me.

I agree with Chissis. There is NO need to split your stay. Get comfy in one place and enjoy!!!

I agree. We visited the Hotel del one afternoon and took a walk on the beach. It was absolutely beautiful and I%26#39;d love to stay there next time. The sand leaves gold sparkles on your feet!

I love Coronado! I visited one afternoon during a business trip last fall and it was as magical as ever. Took the ferry both ways. The beach was beautiful and there are plenty of places to eat. Or you can take the ferry over to the mainland and have dinner in town.

If you have a car, just stay in Coronado.

Perfect place for the evening.

Its a really easy drive to San Diego and the drive

over the Coronado Bridge coming and going is

always one of my highlights of going there....

In short, I second with the rest, you will have a marvelous time.

We also have decided to stay on coranado island with our kids (14, 12, 8) and use the rental car to visit the attractions. We will be there in March. Counting down!!

Which hotel do you all recommend?

bump.. i wanna see the responses to this.

Coronado is sorta a sleepy town and a bit of a drive, but I%26#39;ll consider it if I see more reviews.

For hotels in the area I personally would recommend:

My first choice would be: The Glorietta Bay Inn (http://www.gloriettabayinn.com/). This Inn is a small Boutique Hotel located right across the street from the famous Hotel Del. Besides the Hotel Del having history the Glorietta Inn has history also. Glorietta Inn was also built by John Dietrich Spreckels who also built Hotel Del.

My 2nd choice would be: Hotel Del http://www.hoteldel.com(but right at this time they are under remodel). This is a very upscale luxury hotel, but it has its draw backs. The hotel would be great if it didn%26#39;t have tourists buses driving up all day. If the hotel would eliminate that then your stay there would be great.

My 3rd opinion is Coronado Island Marriott Resort: Resort.http://marriott.com/property/propertypage.mi?marshaCode=SANCI) The sights from this hotel is great to see the San Diego sky line. The only draw back is that this hotel really needs renovating.

That%26#39;s all I could think off. I personally have a reservation at the Gorietta Bay Inn in March and I cannot wait to stay there and see San Diego again!
