Girls getaway before the wedding

Hi,

I would like to take my best friend on a mini vacation in the San Diego area. One of her dreams was to be able to wake up and see the ocean. I think I have narrowed it down to a few choices, which one would be the best. Hotel Del Coronado or La Valancia in La Jolla. Which one would be the best? My budget is around $600-$700 per night.

Any ideas on the activity I can do?

I like the Hotel Del best, and I live in La Jolla, where the Valencia is. For high end hotels, these are two of the best.Be sure to get an ocean view room - there are lots at both hotels that are on the side of the water away from the water.

Another couple of things to consider, if you want to be close to the water as well as see it. La Jolla Beach and Tennis club is right on the beach, and you can open the windows and LISTEN to the surf too. They just held the first round of the Davis Cup there. Or look at the Crystal Pier Hotel in Pacific Beach - it is below your budget, and not a fancy place, but the water is on every side and below you as well - great views. A unique place.

Hotel Del, of course. Go Big, make an impression.

Sign up for the Hotel Del%26#39;s Discover Club. They will send you the scoop on discounts %26amp; monthly specials.

In La Jolla%26#39;s Roppongi%26#39;s they have Martini %26amp; Manicure Mondays. How wonderful!!

Here is a web page with LOTS of great club goings on in SD. 鈥ixliving.com/clubs/weekly_events.asp

If you want quiet %26amp; romantic then the Gondola ride through Coronado Cays is relaxing %26amp; luxurious.

I%26#39;m not sure of your activity level, but would be more than happy to throw out some more suggestions if I knew the flavor you where aiming for.

Its a wonderful place to visit and live. Whatever you choose, I%26#39;m sure you%26#39;ll have a great time.

The Del is a great choice..On the best beach..A little big and rustic for me..LJ Beach %26amp; Tennis is another great choice..As someone who lived on the beach in Carlsbad,to actually hear the surf,is the ultimate..2 more great choices for you to ponder..The Lodge at Torrey Pines, and the Godfather of Hotels in San Diego,Four Seasons Aviara..

Im not a big fan of the Del, to be honest. Yeah, it%26#39;s big, and grand, and regal, but that%26#39;s not neccessarily always a good thing. For some reason, I can%26#39;t see it as a peaceful retreat before a wedding. For my money, I would definitely go with La Valencia.

I would agree that the beach around the Del is better in terms of space and recreation, but its an area I tend to avoid due to the high crowds. The area around La Valencia is slightly less family oriented, with Tons of great restaurants, shops, etc. It%26#39;s La Jolla....come on! Live it up right!

You have two great hotels there. Other than waking up to see the ocean - what else are you looking for? Peace and quiet, spa treatments, sitting on the beach, easy access to watersports, not interested too much in walking out your hotel to do something in town? Than go to Hotel Del. There%26#39;s not a whole lot to do at night around it other than go to dinner. Downtown San Diego isn%26#39;t far. You%26#39;ll need to take a taxi or a combination of the Ferry / taxi to get to and from. The Hotel will naturally help you with that.

If you want a variety of things to do outside your hotel or at night than go to La Valencia. You can still have peace and quiet at the hotel %26amp; spa treatments. An incredible view. No sitting on the beach in front of your hotel. But the view is much prettier I think. La Jolla has a lot of art galleries and shops that are open at night - at least on the weekends. In general, the shopping is much better if that interests you. There%26#39;s no comparison in that regard actually. Well, Hotel Del does have very high-end nice shops.

I could stay at either one happily. I work on Coronado Island and the Hotel Del is lovely. There are some beautiful residential areas around it. Beautiful beach. To me it%26#39;s sort of a retreat.

But I%26#39;d prefer staying in La Jolla though....

what do you hope to accomplish?....if peace and tranquility are your options, then stay at the Del...if you want a little more nightlife, you will have more choices in La Jolla.
