Snow chains this wknd for trip from SF?

Hi all,

We%26#39;re driving up to Yosemite on 120 from SF this weekend. I have read the snow chain advisories that tell us to ALWAYS carry chains, even with a car with 4WD.

We will be renting a Ford Escape SUV. Can Bay Area folks tell us where we can rent chains here in the city? Or good places on the way to rent/buy chains?

i know the weather has been great, but i don%26#39;t want to take chances, especially with all the advisories.

I really don%26#39;t think you%26#39;re going to be in need of chains this weekend- look how warm it is this week! If I were you. I%26#39;d do a wait-and-see. There are places along the highway where you can rent chains in Oakdale if you find out the day you leave that chains are required.

How is the weather ging to be?

Very cold weather expectd this weekend, unfotunately. We have had really spectacular weather for a few weeeks but the party is over. It really cooled off.

Friday 30% chance of rain - snow level expected to be 2000 feet.

Sat %26amp; Sun 50% chance of rain - snow level expected to be 2000 feet.

Daytime temps 40s to low 50s.

The Valley is snow kissed, the marble walls look flocked and it is just the most beautiful time of year. Web cams throughout the park are online at www.yosemite.org/vryos

But yes, all this loveliness brings about some cold and requires care in driving. Chains can be found in several stores along the way once you hit Groveland including Miner%26#39;s Mart, the first gas station on the right as you peak Priest Grade, and just off Ward%26#39;s Ferry road on the left is an auto parts store with chains. Take care however, most rental agencies don%26#39;t allow for chains in the vehicles, they are very damaging!

Call the road and weather info number, 209-372-0200 from Oakdale and if chains are requrired, perhaps change your route to the 140 entrance. At the interection of 108 and 120, don%26#39;t turn right on 120, go straight. This will take you into Merced, and you can hit 140 from there.

We plan on renting an SUV . Perhaps we%26#39;ll take Route 140 from Merced.

By the way, we made dinner reservations at Chateau du Sureau- Erna%26#39;s Elderberry House.

We were told it could take an hour- hour and half to drive from Valley floor.

Hope it%26#39;s worth it.
