As part of a summer trip my husband wants to meet some friends at the Comic-Con (end of July), but I really don%26#39;t want to pay the inflated hotel prices and deal with the hordes of comic book folks...
Could you recommend a suburb to search in, or even a specific hotel within a 30 min drive to the convention center area, and possibly around $100 a night? (We%26#39;re staring in Vegas, stopping in Palm Springs, then one night in SD before returning home)
Thanks so much for your help.
Could anyone suggest a hotel/suburb of SD within 30 min...Lots of possibilities: outside of the central downtown in our LIttle Italy section: La Pensione, or Super 8 Bayview. You could take our light rail system(trolley) to comicon. The trouble with staying outside the city is the traffic in the morning going south on theI- 15. Since you are coming from Palm Springs you will be passing Rancho Bernardo and Poway which have fairly inexpensive motels ;Travelodge, La Quinta %26amp;Ramada LImited but traffic from there is a pain. It cold easily take an hour. There is a Days Inn on Claremont Mesa Blvd.(another neighborhood in SD)That would not be a bad drive but it is not a tourist neighborhood . It is just a normal middle class/working class neighborhood with some motels on the side of the freeway. That would be about 20-min.Good luck
Could anyone suggest a hotel/suburb of SD within 30 min...We just came back from a trip to San Diego and stayed at the Seaworld Travelodge on Midway Drive for $56.90 a night. We had 2 comfortable queen beds, nice quiet neighborhood, microwave, refrigerator, jacuzzi, heated pool and free continental breakfast.
Why waste any more money??
There is an area of San Diego called Hotel Circle. They have different types and prices. Its not too far from attractions like Sea World ect. You can also try getting a hotel room at that same hotel the con is at on a hotel website like expedia or orbitz or travelocity those are the 3 I use they usually don%26#39;t take special events into their price.

Did you look at Little Italy - just a mile or so from the convention center, but a great area, far enough away from the convention center to avoid the crowds, but close enough to walk - or take the trolley. There area several hotels there that are reasonable, including the Hampton Inn, the Pensione, and the Super 8 on Columbia Street. A very safe, nice area with lots of restaurants nearby - a wonderful location to stay www.littleitalysd.com
Sorry, didn%26#39;t realize Riffsmom already suggested those to you - we agree, it%26#39;s a great location
Thanks for your kind suggestions - the Comic-con has such a high volume of attendees that many of the closer, small hotels you mentioned are sold out already! We decided on a Staybridge suites about 20 miles away; we%26#39;ve always been happy with Staybridge in the past.
Boy, I do not look forward to parking near the convention center!
You might want to drive to a trolley stop - Mission Valley area or Old Town, and take the trolley from there - much easier - and cheaper - than trying to park near the convention center. The trolley stops right across the street from the Comic Con, and then you wouldn%26#39;t have to worry.
