We just recieved our tickets from the Blue and Gold for the Evening Alcatraz Tour. It just sounded like a cool thing to do. I am really looking forward to it. It just dawned on me that I don%26#39;t think I ever saw any post on here either positive or negitive about going to Alcatraz at night.
How%26#39;s been and how was it?
Staying in DoubleTree in Burlingame, should I drive it to the cruise location?
How%26#39;s the parking down there?

I personally would just take BART into the City and take either a cable car or streetcar/bus to Fisherman%26#39;s Wharf. There are parking lots, however driving in the City can be stressful, especially if you%26#39;re not from around here. Unless you NEED a car to go other places, I don%26#39;t think it%26#39;s worth it as a whole.
I have been on the night tour with family a few years back and it was okay. I didn%26#39;t like it because it was super cold and windy the night we went and even in proper clothing I was miserable.
That said, the tour it%26#39;s self was just fine. I have been on both and I didn%26#39;t think the night tour was anything super spectacular but it was enjoyable enough. Nighttime definitely gives a different feel to the island and as long as you dress appropriately, you should have a good time. I think that the history of Alcatraz is facinating, no matter what time you go.

You could use BART and the F line streetcars to get there and back w/out too much trouble.
Parking is a challenge. You could park all day rates ($11) in pay lots at Pier 23. Pier 29, Pier 33, Pier 35

We were on the tour in late December and had a great night. The views are great and the tours fantastic.
Thr ferry trip out was unexpectidley scenic as it was sunset, had some great photos of the bridge. As said previousley its cold out there so layer up as much as you can.
We liked the night tour as we felt it made the tour a bit more atmospheric. We used the day time prior to the tour to fit in all the stuff around Fishermans wharf so had a great fun packed day.
I am also planning on visiting and was wondering what the temp is early March if I take the night tour?
Thank you
March temps normally low 50%26#39;s, but big wind chill factor. Bundle up for any evening trip out on the bay--most days as well.
We are going to be on the evening tour in Feb. and I have been told to bring my Nebraska winter coat even to SF as it is very chilly on the boat ride out to Alcatraz. I%26#39;m willing to bet that our view of the city, bridge, and bay is worth toughing it for a couple of hours. Anyway have fun. P.S. Taking Bart sounds great but locals seem to frown on it.??
Actually, I think most of the locals on our forum actually *recommend* taking BART/Muni to get around while in San Francisco rather than trying to drive a car and worry about parking...
Just got back from a wonderful trip to San Francisco, where my daughter and I took the night tour to Alcatraz. I%26#39;ve been on the day tour before, and I thought the night tour was superior. We had lovely weather -- we were fine with sweaters and light jackets over them. Before the fog rolled in, the view of the city all lit up at night from Alcatraz was breathtaking.
Here%26#39;s a tip: don%26#39;t be in a rush to begin the audio tour. If you%26#39;re last off the boat, and last in your group, you can press the audio ';start'; button at your leisure and not be crowded from behind by eager tour-starters. We didn%26#39;t do that, but saw a few stragglers who did, and they experienced a much more enjoyable tour.
There are ';extras'; you can choose with the night tour that aren%26#39;t offered during the day, and we enjoyed the one featuring the cell doors opening and closing.
Hope you have nice weather as we did. Enjoy your visit to an incredible city.
First of all, thank you all so much for all of the great info. I am very excited to see all of the sights of SF! I think Alcatraz @ night will be VERY cool. Everytime I see a reply from SAKS I%26#39;m thinking ';is that Sakes in that picture?'; I%26#39;m still not sure but am glad to get the ';skinny'; from someone local.
What did we all do before the internet?
