Was on Universal Studios website yesterday. And, saw they are having a special, if you pay $56.00 for a one day ticket. The first day you enter the park it becomes a pass good until 12/31/2006. Since we will be in the LA area for 6 days we figured it would be worth it, as after our 1 full day there, we could always pop in for a few hours another day or two. Am I missing something?
Also, has anyone purchased the all you can eat Universal park ticket? If so, is it worth it?
Any suite hotels nearby Universal preferrably with transportation to the park and the city walk?
Thanks for your help.
Universal Studios Help Please
Hi,
They%26#39;re not suite hotels, but there are two hotels (The Sheraton and the Hilton) right at the park. Other hotels you would have to drive to (or take a cab or public transportation.) So, I%26#39;d highly recommend staying at one of these two hotels. You can get around easily from this location, anyway, so if you%26#39;re here for six days and want to explore the city, it would be a good base for you, and you%26#39;d have the added bonus of being right next to citywalk and the park if you wanted to go back and forth.
Don%26#39;t have any advice about the all you can eat ticket, unfortunately. (Except that maybe unless you%26#39;re a huge eater, it might not be worth it!)
Have a great time!

The 2 day ticket is fine.....we popped back in the second day and caught 2 shows we would not have seen the first. The all you can eat is at select restauranst only there (not all.) Overall the Univeral park food is ';mediocre - i.e. standard amusement park fair'; and ';overpriced';. If you do intend to eat at the park, then its an ok deal as you will spend the same money either way. You will have longer lines to stand in since they do not limit (at least the time we visited) where you can buy food. The thing we found is if you don%26#39;t mind exiting the park (i.e. get handstamped) you can get much better food and more reasonable prices at City Walk...directly outside the main gates to the park.
Will you have a car?
In general, I wouldn%26#39;t recommend staying at Universal since it is at the extreme northern end of the Hollywood metro area. In addition, you are part of the way up a hill -- at the top of which is the park -- so if you were going to be using public transportation, you would be walking up and down that hill every day -- maybe twice a day.
Hollywood (near the intersection of Hollywood Bl %26amp; Highland) is a much better base for you. It is only one metro (subway) stop away from Universal (4 minutes). From that intersection, there are metrorail trains to Universal (of course) and downtown and buses to everywhere elese. In addition, 1/2 block from that intersection is the depot for starline tours which has 1,2 4 and 8 hour bus tours to many, many parts of the metro area. (You can even grab a coach to Disneyland from there). Visit Starline at:
http://starlinetours.com/hollywoodtours.asp
In additon, there is a popular ';suite hotel'; 2 blocks from this intersection called the Orchid Suites Hotel (orchidsuites.com) where you can get rooms FOR A LOT LESS than the hotels on the Universal Studios grounds and with that savings you could easily take a taxi (or two) to Universal (less than minutes).
Also at the corner of Hollywood and Highland is the Hollywood and Highland dining, shopping and entertainment complex as well as a bucketful of area restaurants, clubs and shops.
And, no hills to climb!!
Good luck.
Small typo here. The cab ride from Hollywood %26amp; Highland to Universal is less than 10 minutes.
We went in January and bought the $56 pay one day, get the rest of the year free. For us, since we bought it in January, it%26#39;s good until Jan 2007. We have some guests coming in next month and I know they want to go there. One good thing great about the pass, you also get discounts on food purchases at the park(which we used), ticket admission discounts for other guests, and I believe discounts on merchandise purchased.
I saw the all you can eat park ticket, but looks like it%26#39;s only applicable to 2 or 3 food places at the park, we didn%26#39;t get it. The food at Citywalk though is much better than inside Universal Studios.
