dodgers and galaxy

Hi,will be in LA for a weekend in april when both the dodgers and galaxy(soccer team) play home games. From what i can see downtown would be the closet area to stay get to both stadiums. Is it possible to get to both stadiums by public transportation, as i will not have a car,the galaxy game is on a saturday night and the dodgers on sunday afternoon. Also can you buy tickets on game day? or do they sell out?

cheers rammy

Tickets will be available for both events at the box office on game day. They won%26#39;t sell out and even then you can get tickets from scalpers for a five bucks over face value.

Downtwon is convenient for the Dodgers but a little far for the Galaxy.

You can taxi for $15 or bus it to Dodger stadium from Downtown. Public transport--bus--could take you a while to get to Carson where the Galaxy play.

I%26#39;ll just reitterate what Straightdope posted. Dodger Stadium would be fairly easy to get to via public transportation from Downtown.

The Home Depot Center in Carson where the Galaxy play is about 30 miles from Downtown LA which would mean a long ride via public tranpostation. Also, keep in mind that out here the public transportation doesn%26#39;t run all that late so if the Galaxay game were to end at say 10:00pm, you might have a tough time finding buses/trains that would run late enough to get you back to your Downtown destination.

Here is a link to the Metro website which is the public transportation company for Los Angeles. www.MTA.net

my advice---get a rental car and stay somewhere nicer than downtown (either by the beach of in Pasadena, which is pretty close to downtown/DOdger Stadium).

LA%26#39;s downtown is not a very nice place to relax---trust me, I work there.

Would definitely avoid downtown. Stayed there twice simply because it was 8 blocks away from Staples Center. Nothing going on at night in downtown. Everything is closed. Amazing a city with 18 million people has no downtown feel to it. You can definitely buy tickets on gameday for both events. Do yourself a favor and have a dodger dog at the baseball game. They are are the best hot dogs in the world!

Oh yeah definitely get a Dodger Dog when you%26#39;re at the Dodger game.

I don%26#39;t know about the Dodgers, but the Galaxy will sell out. There probably won%26#39;t be any tickets available at the box office. Better to buy them in advance than be surprised when you get there.

The Galaxy play at the Home Depot Center more affectionately known as Victoria Street. It%26#39;s not the easiest place to get to by public transportation. It%26#39;s even harder for night games. There are a couple of express buses that run from downtown to the stadium. Those will work, but you may want to check out the galaxy message board at www.bigsoccer.com They may have better ideas on how to get there.

Downtown LA has several very good restaurants. Additionally, a few bars have opened up over the last year or so. It%26#39;s nowhere near as dead as it was two or even one year ago. It is also very well situated for traveling by public transportation. All but one of the rail lines and many of the bus lines go through downtown.

Actually, there%26#39;s plenty going on in downtown. I can attest to that because I live downtown. However, like everything else in L.A., it is not concentrated together. If you are cooped up in an office all day, I can understand coming to a different opinion. That said, if convenience to both Dodger stadium and the Galaxy%26#39;s stadium is yoru priority, I think you%26#39;d be better off staying in Hollywood or Santa Monica. It sounds like you won%26#39;t have a lot of time. Taking public transit probably might not be the best idea. I%26#39;d even recommend staying near the Farmer%26#39;s Market at Fairfax %26amp; Third. This neighborhood is very easy for first-time visitors. If you were taking in a Kings or Lakers or Clippers game, yes, I%26#39;d say stay downtown.

A few years ago a visiting buddy and I saw a lot of sporting events in the course of a few day with no advance ticket purchases. We saw the Ducks, Kings, Lakers and Dodgers and simply walked up to the box office to sold out events. We had no problems at all.

One last comment. The Dodgers are no longer the great franchise of yore. They%26#39;ve really gone downhill over the past decade the chaotic management and team turmoil. They really aren%26#39;t first in the hearts of Angelenos. Amazingly, the Angels have taken over that spot.

HTH. Enjoy the trip.
