Holiday Inn Mission Bay on Sports Arena

I have read a few reviews, but curious what the local pros think about the Holiday Inn by the Sports Arena? As far as its proximaty to other restaurants, the beach, and other activities? Thanks again!

If you have a car it will be easy to get around. It is on a busy street with lots of restaurants nearby. It is not a pretty area but I imagine it is reasonably priced and it is centrally located.

As Riffsmom indicated, it%26#39;s not a pretty area. Sports Arena is a very busy street, and there%26#39;s lots going on around there - big box stores like Target and Home Depot, etc. I frequent the area for those stores, but personally wouldn%26#39;t want to stay in the area while on vacation. While there are several restaurants in the area, it%26#39;s just very congested with lots of traffic.

It%26#39;s not as centrally located as downtown, and not particularly close to a beach. It also doesn%26#39;t have the range of restaurants as downtown. It%26#39;s close to SeaWorld, and that%26#39;s the only selling point in my opinion. If you stay there, it%26#39;s safe enough, but not a ';walk to restaurants at night'; type of area - more of a drive-everywhere area.

You both cemented that for me. Thank you. I%26#39;ll scratch it off my list. Ultimately, a hotel on the beach that offers activities, such as boat rentals or surfing, or a hotel very close to those things are what we are most interested in.

You might want to look at the Catamaran or the Dana in the Pacific Beach/Mission Beach areas - I think those sound like what you%26#39;re looking for.

I just looked at the Catamaran and the Dana hotels. Are there any main differences between these two. I think I am leaning toward the Dana, but the Catamaran also sounds good. Don%26#39;t really care about the decor, but do like a good view, good pool and good location.

Any thoughts on Bahia Resort?

Do you have kids? The reason is that I would rate them differently with and without kids - because the Catamaran has more kids activities. With kids - 1-Catamaran, 2-Dana, 3-Bahia , without - 1-Dana, 2-Catamaran, Bahia still 3. Why - because Bahia (in my opinion) is not in as good of a location as the other two, more isolated, and I prefer to be closer to more restaurants and activities. Also of note, the Catamaran is right across the street from the ocean (for the beach) and right on Mission Bay - the other two are just on Mission Bay.

Yes, I do have kids. They love the pool, and the beach as well as the whole boogie board thing. I figure I may have to get them more clothes to get in the water since it is so cold. My wife is also very interested in renting a boat for the day. Seems like some of these hotels do this. No idea on prices yet. I%26#39;ll post that as a separate question.

Our preliminary itenarary will include a day at Sea World and 1-2 full days of beach/ocean related activities. Otherwise we will be visiting the sights in Hollywood, including Universal Studios. I figure we will get a hotel in Santa Monica for our time in L.A. (we are flying into LAX) and get a hotel in the San Diego area for our time there. The Catamaran does sounds like it may fit all of our needs.
