urgent! information about hotel in Santa Barbara

My friend and I need to know a nice and inexpensive place to stay in Santa Barbara for one night. After an exhausting teaching course in LA I thought of Santa Barbara because is close to LA and the town seems lovely. Any help on that will be most welcome. We`re going on Thrusday.

If you%26#39;re going to be exhausted after teaching all day, then you might want to reconsider driving to Santa Barbara, which is about 2 hours outside of Los Angeles (at least a two hour drive).

Why not go to Hermosa Beach, or Redondo or Manhattan Beach?

There is a Days Inn on Castillo St that is close to the Harbor. It is a plain hotel, but I bet it is fine. Also, the Cabrillo Inn is well-priced esp during an off-season week, and it is on Cabrillo St on the east beach side. Otherwise, SB%26#39;s cheaper accomodations are probably located on upper State St, a little north or farther from downtown.

I was just driving on upper State St and noted that the Sunset Motel on the 3500 block of State St is advertising $55, Sunday through Thursday. That price might indicate a scary room, but from the outside, the hotel looks nice, plain but nice, very acceptable.

Upper State St is our everyday area, lots of businesses, restaurants and shops, not touristy like downtown, clean, and not gritty like some older, larger cities.
