My son is into dinosaurs and we%26#39;re planning a side trip to LA from Ventura. Can anyone advice on whether we should visit the Natural History musuem of LA or the La Brea tar pits/Page museum, as we may not have time to do both? Thanks.
La Brea Tar Pits vs. Natural History museum LA
Both are good and if you can do both. But, for only one I%26#39;d say the Natural History Museum. Just more to do and to keep him interested outside of Dinosaurs. The Tar Pits and museum don%26#39;t take too long (but then again I%26#39;m an adult, maybe a kid can be interested there longer).

Defnitely do the NHM. Page Museum/La Brea Tar Pits have only specimens collected on site, which means no dinosaurs. IT%26#39;s a fun visit but much more to see at the NHM, and definitely more dinosaurs!
I%26#39;d recommend the Natural History Museum because the Science Center is right next store. You%26#39;ll have a very busy day. Your son will love it all.
I%26#39;d also recommend checking out the Kidspace Museum in Pasadena near the Rose Bowl.
You could swing by the tarpits and just walk around the tar lake and check that out.
Also, the Gull%26#39;s Wing Museum in Oxnard is a fun hands on kids museum, a great Kids bookstore in Ventura is Adventures for Kids.
Also, if you head up to Santa Barbara, the zoo is excellant for your age children - small but very nice. Also try the Santa Barbara Museum of Natural History. It will be much closer to where you are - and small - but well done. http://www.sbnature.org/
Go to the Channel Islands Beach, the parks center has a neat hands on display with a ton of information.
As a previous poster stated, La Brea tar pits do not have dinasaurs - it is from the time of Woolley Mammoths, sabertooth tigers, etc...
Not that it has anything to do with Dinosaurs, but if you do go to the Santa Barbara Museum of Natural History, which is a brilliant suggestion from Juxie...you might want to wander up the road a little further afterwards and visit the Botanical Gardens. The paths are not suitable for a stroller, but there are soooo many wonderful things for the children to see there...in fact, if you take the trail loop down into the Redwood Tree forest, it will feel magical to the children...finding the stream, the old stone bridge and looking up at the big trees. . . very nice adventure to burn off some ';kid'; steam. They will be tired enough to visit the Mission after that!
