We are visiting LA next month and would like to see a movie at a historic cinema. Is there a list somewhere of current movies? We are also interested in architecture so just going to have a look at them would be OK with us too.
Thanks
Old cinemas
Hi Catulla --
I posted these on another TA thread.
You should check out these grand old theaters all located in Hollywood still showing current movies:
El Capitan (6838 Hollywood Blvd.)
The Egyptian (6712 Hollywood Blvd)
Grauman%26#39;s Chinese (6925 Hollywood Blvd.)
They don%26#39;t (and never will again) make %26#39;em like this anymore.

Those 3 are perfect. I%26#39;d also add two must sees right by eachother in Westwood - Fox Theatre (Mann Village) and the Majestic Crest. Both built in either the 30%26#39;s or 40%26#39;s.

There%26#39;s also the Vista Theater in Los Feliz (just east of Hollywood). Gorgeous place. They just refurbished it a few years ago. One of the things which is great is when they replaced the seats, they removed every other row. So there is tons of space. The address is 4473 Sunset Drive 323-660-6639. It can be reached via the Red Line at the Sunset station. When you exit, head a block or two east on Sunset. It is at the corner of Sunset %26amp; Hollywood.
You should also check the website for the Los Angeles Conservancy (www.laconservancy.org). They offer many tours including one of the old theater/cinemas in downtown.
Too bad you%26#39;re not visiting during the summer. The Conservancy also offers an excellent program called Last Remaining Seats where old films are shown in the old theaters.
One last suggestion is The Aero in Santa Monica. This is a great little theater on Montana. I haven%26#39;t been there in years. But, I heard the American Cinemateque bought it and opened a western branch. (Their homebase is The Egyptian in Hollywood.)
You should have more choices than you imagined. Enjoy your trip.
I also agree with the Egyptian, El Capitan, and the Chinese Theater.
They have the classic movies showing at the Egyptian. El Capitan is more Disney oriented, but before each movie, there%26#39;s always a live show. Have fun!
