Hi, I%26#39;ve been to San Francisco before, but I%26#39;m planning a 1.5 day stop over on the way to Vegas. Can anyone tell me how much I can do, and recommend a 1.5 day itinerary? Thanks in advance!

Why dont you tell us what you did on your last SF visit so we can recomend something new
Hello,
I was in SF about 8 years ago and I pretty young back there so I don%26#39;t remember too much of it. I do remember being in some sort of boat tour which had an audio tour of the golden gate bridge. We were also in the golden gate bridge park for some pictures. The only other things I remember were the crooked street, Fisherman%26#39;s Wharf (mmMMmm Chowder) and Chinatown.
I%26#39;m looking to go to Alcatraz this trip (blame the movie the rock!) I was looking at blue and gold fleet tours, and they offer 2 tours- day and night. Which would you recommend and why? I also definitely want to work in some time at the Wharf, and if someone could recommend a good chowder place that would be great. I am going with my parents and my dad is really into seafood and red wine. Is there a good seafood place with a good wine selection for dinner? (preferably not too pricey)
Besides the Alcatraz trip, I don%26#39;t really have anything planned. I have 1.5 days in SF, so I would like to really cram a lot of activities into this time frame. I never got to ride on the trolley or cable cars last trip, so I would really like to do that too. Are there huge lines (think disney lines) for the cable cars, trolleys, or ferry for Alcatraz?
Thanks again!
1.Buy your ticket ahead of time for Alcatraz.
2. There are not huge lines for the cable cars. They are transit, not a ride. As such, you don%26#39;t have to stand at the turnaround where you see a line. Only tourists actually do that. The rest of us go up a couple of blocks and get on where they also stop. Have your MUNI pass ready. You can buy a day pass so that you can take other transit (such as buses and the popular F line historic streetcar that goes from Market Street to Fisherman%26#39;s Wharf). Don%26#39;t expect the conductor to sell you a ticket. There are machines at the turnaround if you just want to buy a single ride, but a MUNI pass may be more economical.
Where/what is the easiest best way to buy a MUNI pass?
Here%26#39;s the link for the passes. You probably just need a 1 day pass, $11 as of Sept 1. There are locations in the links to buy. You can get them at SFO baggage claim or Union Square has a ticket window for shows and they sell them there, also. Cable car fares are going up to $5 each way, so that makes this a good deal, since you can use it on all Muni vehicles (unlimited).

For chowder, go to Boudin%26#39;s on the Wharf. Best French bread in town.

Dinner, we like Scoma%26#39;s, Pier 47

i would reccomend a go car tour, we had great fun doing that.
We were in San Fran last month for 3 full and one half day. One of the full days we got up early and rode to Monterey for 17 mile drive and Carmel and one full day was taken up with a family wedding, so here is what we did do in the 1 and half days we had left.
Arrived Wed to our hotel about 2:30. We settled in and went for food. Then we walked to Ghirdelli Square and wandered. The Cannery is right next door so we could have walked thru but were exhausted.
Thurs-Got up early-Ate breakfast-Drove to Golden Gate Bridge Park and got pictures then walked on bridge for a bit and went back to car and drove over to Sausolito and drove around for about 45 minutes. Then drove over to Lombard St and drove and then walked down. Went back to hotlel and left car-Took bus to Fishermans wharf and ate lunch-Wandered Fishermans Wharf and Pier 39 for afternoon, then went over for our 7:05 evening tour of Alcatraz. Like I said Friday and Sat were not in San Fran although we got up early Sat and rode Cable Cars.
Bit of Advice-Do Not Wait in line at end of cable cars. We walked a couple blocks and hoped on one to Union Square from Cable Car museum. When we got off the line to get on was at least and hour maybe hour and half-We walked 6 blocked and picked up cable car going to Van Ness-It was empty!!!
Hope this helps. I thought we packed a lot into our time there.
Missed a lot though because of the short time. Hoping to go back and spend more time.
A wonderful seafood dinner and great wine list are at Scoma%26#39;s on the wharf. Might be pricey, depends on what%26#39;s your definition. The McCormick/Kuleto%26#39;s place in Ghiradelli Square also has good food.
