If you go to www.usatourist.com, and then to US Attractions and click on California Driving Tour - it will map out somewhat the plan you have in mind of SF - Yosemite - Monterey. It gives you an idea of mileage and traveling time.

Once you break your trip into segments, hopefully you will have enough time to see Yosemite. Half the fun of the trip is in the planning and anticipation. Enjoy.

Some thoughts, just to strengthen your resolve, once you%26#39;ve seen all the delights of California dangled before you:

1. Is it worth making the journey from San Francisco to Yosemite and back to the coast for two nights? YES YES YES YES YES. You%26#39;ll have plenty of coast on your trip already, and while, indeed, it is quite breathtaking, there are entire stretches that you can forgo in favor of a new delight. There is, after all, only one Yosemite.

2. In planning your travel, the one segment of your coastal trip you would want to include is Big Sur. It%26#39;s beautiful coastline.

3. Figure out your dates as quickly as you can so you can book lodging inside Yosemite Park. Even though you are traveling outside the summer vacation season, lodging does book up. You may want to do the first night on the Yosemite Valley floor and the second night around the southern entrance to the park so that when you leave you are farther south toward your Southern California destination. You can book the first night in the gateway cities, like El Portal, if inside the park is already booked.

Here is the website for the concession that operates the lodging inside the park:

You can do a search to find out more lodging lowdown by plugging into a search engine: Yosemite, lodging, concession. People have opinions about Yosemite Concession Services, which has the exclusive contract to operate the lodging inside the park. You%26#39;ll find them on various websites.

Read the hotel reviews by travellers for Yosemite and other destinations here on Trip Advisor, to help figure out what places you will find most comfortable within your budget.

We know many of these places, but always get insights from other people%26#39;s experiences and also learn what specific things to confirm when making the reservation.
