I%26#39;m thinking of stopping for a night in Sebastopol when I travel from Berkeley to Mendocino and I%26#39;m wondering if distance-wise that makes sense. I don%26#39;t need to cut the trip exactly in half, but can someone tell me how long a drive I should expect from Sebastopol to Mendocino? Also, any opinions about the Sebastopol Inn and any suggestions for lodging in Mendocino? I%26#39;m going to see the botanical gardens at UC Berkeley and then at Mendocino (Fort Bragg). If there are any others up in that area, I%26#39;d love to hear about them, too. Thanks very much.
Sebastopol a good stopover point?
Personally I%26#39;d park it next door in Santa Rosa, which has a much better selection of lodgings and eats. Such as the Flamingo Resort Hotel, Fountaingrove Inn, The Gables Inn, and Hotel La Rose. See the town streets adorned with Peanuts characters. Do go see the Charles M. Schulz Museum, his studio %26amp; the labyrinth outdoor Snoopy garden of his hometown. (707) 579-4452.
Also the Luther Burbank Home %26amp; Gardens of 800 varieites of hortilculture fruits, veggies, nuts, grains %26amp; flowers on the premises. (707) 524-5445.
Also nearby between Santa Rosa %26amp; Calistoga is the Safari West Wildlife. Home to 350 exotic animals %26amp; birds on a private funded 400 acre preserve. Tours, overnight lodgings and eats available. It reminds me of being out on the Serengti Plain in Africa. A true wildlife experience.
Straight drive time should be no more than 3 hours between Santa Rosa and Mendocino via the 101 %26amp; 20.
In Fort Bragg, there%26#39;s the Mendocino Coast Botanical Gardens, and in those 47 acres there%26#39;s always something in bloom with 3 miles of trails leading from the nursery to the bluffs for an ocean view. Free electric carts are available. Nearby meadow and picnic areas too. (707) 964-4352.
At Fort Bragg there%26#39;s the Harbor Lite Lodge, The Lodge at Noyo River, and North Cliff Hotel.
In Mendocino there%26#39;s the Brewery Gulch Inn, Mendocino Seaside Cottages, Sea Rock Inn, and Stanford Inn By The Sea %26amp; Spa.
There%26#39;s So Much more to see and do in this part of the State. Whether inland or along the coast. Enjoy!
