Hello
Is it safe / easy to get to Union Square from the Castro late at night?, is it walkable or are there buses running?
Castro / Union Square
I can%26#39;t really tell you it is safe.
But it is easy to get there.
Have a look on this page: www.sfmuni.com
Castro / Union Square
It%26#39;s walkable during the day. I wouldn%26#39;t walk it at night because you have to go through the mid-Market street area, which is where the Tenderloin bleeds over into South of Market, roughly from 8th Street to 6th Street.
Take the F line streetcar. These are the historic trolleys that are so popular and are a second attraction to the more famous cable cars. The rail buffs and Muni workers restored these lovely old beauties from around the world. You%26#39;ll find streetcars from Milan and elsewhere on this line. The F line can take you from the Castro all the way down Market Street and around to Fisherman%26#39;s Wharf. If you want to go to Union Square, just get off around 5th Street / Powell Street.
To add to BetterthanBings post, you can get off at 5th and Market to get to Union Square, but that%26#39;s the edge of the not-so-nice area. If you want to feel really safe, go farther one block and get off at 4th and Market and walk up on Stockton Street.
Thanks for this, last time we were there we got the F line from Fishermans Wharf to the bottom of Powell and Market, if we had stayed on would it have gone on to the Castro?
Yes, the F line runs from Fisherman%26#39;s Wharf to Market %26amp; Powell, and then to the Castro. It%26#39;s a scenic way to go!
Quicker would be the underground MUNI K, L, or M lines, which run from the Powell Street MUNI station to the Castro MUNI station and beyond.
