Fountain Grove Inn

I will be traveling to Sonoma the second week of October. I am considering staying at the Fountain Grove Inn. Does anyone have any thoughts re: this inn? Is the location okay? If not, where would you recommend? We will be there for 2 nights and our primary interest is visiting wineries - not concerned w/spas. Also considering Mission Inn. What is a good base location? We have never been to wine country and any advice or assistance would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Fountain Grove Inn

Fountain Grove Inn is not in Sonoma, it is in Santa Rosa. We prefer to stay in the Sonoma or Healdsburg area when we visit this region. Do a word search for Fountain Grove Inn and you will learn more.

Are you referring to the Sonoma Mission Inn? That is my favorite place to stay in Sonoma. I love the property, historic feel to the place, gorgeous grounds and mineral water soaking pools. It is a Fairmont property, which is very nice and upscale. Highly recommend the Sonoma Mission Inn. Cheers! :)

The Fountaingrove Inn (www.fountaingroveinn.com) has a beautiful interior (lots of rock and wood) and a very good restaurant (';Equus';) on site. But they%26#39;re located right off 2 very busy thoroughfares and the #101 frwy is a very short distance away as well and you%26#39;d have no decent views from your room. A lot of business people choose this hotel as it%26#39;s centrally located. If you choose to stay in Santa Rosa you might want to consider the Sonoma County Hilton, which is high on a hill above the Fountaingrove Inn. It%26#39;s a very spacious, pretty property and has a first-rate restaurant (';Nectar';) on site which offers a panoramic view over the city and a historic round barn. The Hilton%26#39;s Website is: www.winecountryhilton.com.

Since you have only a couple of nites you may want to choose a specific wine country area like the Sonoma Valley or the Alexander Valley. I really agree with Syrahgirl that either Healdsburg or a location like Sonoma or Glen Ellen would be a great choice. From Healdsburg you%26#39;ll be able to easily tour thru the Alexander Valley, Dry Creek Valley and the Russian River Valley which are filled with fine wineries and gorgeous scenery.

The Fountaingrove Inn is beautiful. I%26#39;ve stayed there several times. If you request an UPSTAIRS room, With a view of the back and the Red Barn you should have no noise problems as you face AWAY from the freeway. Noise has never been a problem with me and from what I understand it was built by architects who designed it in a way to reduce outside noise.

I%26#39;ve stayed at the Hilton 3 times and while they just remodeled I%26#39;ve always had a problem with rude staff.

The Sonoma Mission Inn is beautiful and actually in Sonoma but will run you more than either of the other hotels. Santa Rosa is a good location because you are in the middle of everything and a short drive to Sonoma, Napa and Healdsburg. Have a wonderful time!
