San Francisco restaurants...HELP! I can't remember the...

We are taking my Neices aged 17 and 10 to San Francisco for 4 days. We%26#39;ve been lots, but it%26#39;s their 1st time. Our vacations with them are wild and wacky no holds barred fun trips with ice cream for breakfast and midnight swims ect.... I heard there was an ';underwater restaurant'; that you got to via some guys boat??? Anyone know the name?? Also, a good and fun Dim Sum restaurant that the girls would think was really cool? If you have any suggestions on places to eat B,L or dinner and something we may have missed in our many trips up there please suggest, we leave in 2 weeks. Thanks!!

Forbes Island is the name of the underwater restaurant that you take a boat to get there. The restaurant at Pier 41.

I%26#39;ll let others fill in the rest.

Thank you thank you!!!!

If you find yourself wandering around in the Haight Ashbury neighborhood, I highly recommend eating at Cha Cha Cha%26#39;s. They serve tapas (with a carribean flare) and great sangria (for the adults, of course). The atmosphere is fun and the food is unique and tasty. The best time to go is between 5 and 6, before the restaurant gets crazy busy. If you go after 6, you%26#39;ll have to wait at least 30 to 45 minutes to get a table. I believe they serve lunch only on the weekends.

Oh, and since you mentioned breakfast....

Dottie%26#39;s True Blue Cafe is worth a stop if you are staying in Union Square. Many locals go here, and again, it usually requires having to wait in line because the restaurant is so tiny.

The other downside is the neighborhood it is located in. It%26#39;s on Jones St. between O%26#39;Farrell and Post (the infamous tenderloin neighborhood). Even though it%26#39;s early in the morning, there are always homeless hanging around and sometimes using drugs not too far away from the patrons in line. I%26#39;ve never heard of anyone being accosted, but it%26#39;s something to keep in mind.

There is a reason so many locals go here and wait in line despite the street people hanging around...it%26#39;s because the food is that good.

About Forbes Island... I don%26#39;t know if anyone else has been there and would like to share their experience but I was there last December and thought the restaurant was a bit over-rated. Of course it%26#39;s exciting when you get to take a boat to the restaurant and the person who navigates the boat calls himself ';Mr. Forbes.'; The ';island'; is fun to walk around and it also has a lighthouse, I believe, that you can check out. The food and service, however, is not all that great. We waited FOREVER to place our orders and our server didn%26#39;t really even check in with us during our meal. The food was just ';okay'; but considering each entree is over $25, I expected more. Another thing you need to get used to while dining, is that the ';island'; is constantly moving so you might feel a little seasick.

There are so many other great restaurants in SF, so if I were you, I would pass on this one... but then again, perhaps other people have had better experiences that they can share with you.

Good luck!

By the way, for good dim sum, I would recommend Harbor Village, in the Embarcadero area... great food!

Many have already mentioned the Fire Engine Tour in other posts. I personslly have been twice. It is great fun and definitely something different. They have a web site where you can make reservations and pay for your tickets. The tour begins near Ghiradelli Square and winds thru. SF, the presidio, over Golden gate Bridge, thru. Sausalito and back again. What a thrill to be riding on the outside of the fire engine while roaring over the bridge!! You and your nieces will love it .

Thanks Kats410! Maybe we will skip it then. I didn%26#39;t know it moved and we rook a dinner cruise once with them and it ended in me ';seeing'; their dinner again.......But thanks for the tip on the Dim sum, we%26#39;ll go there then!
