how to get from Berkeley to Marin?

What%26#39;s the best way for a student from Cal to get over to Marin without a car? I know there%26#39;s no BART, but are there buses? He lives on Parker and is trying to get to Tiburon or San Rafael. Thanks!

I haven%26#39;t figured this one out, but I think if you use the transit trip planner feature on 511.org, you can find a way to do it.

My first impulse would be to gto through San Francisco. You%26#39;d take AC Transit express bus over to the Transbay Terminal on First and Mission streets in SF. From there, there should be a Golden Gate Transit bus that stops right out front or across the street on Mission that can take you to whichever city you need to get to -- Tiburon or San Rafael. There should be good commuter service from there that goes across SF and over the Golden Gate Bridge.

There also might be a way of taking a bus from the eastern approach -- across the Richmond-San Rafael Bridge. That involves going through three counties -- from Alameda County to Contra Costa County and up to Marin County -- and most transit districts will provide a way for you to get to the adjacent county, but not through two adjacent counties. You might have to take BART to Richmond, then Richmond to San Rafael via Golden Gate Transit or the Contra Costa County transit district.

Try plugging the addresses of your starting point and destination into the 511.org trip planner and see what you get. They%26#39;re a work in progress. I haven%26#39;t been satisfied with them on several occasions. For sure you can get to SF via AC Transit, and to points in Marin from SF very reliably and easily. You could call GG Transit and ask them how to get to your destination from Berkeley. It wouldn%26#39;t surprise me if it%26#39;s the way I just outlined.

There is a bus that goes from (I believe) the Richmond BART station to the 4th St. transit hub in San Rafael over the San Rafael Bridge- at least I know there used to be, because a frind of mine used it to commute from San Rafeal to Berkeley a long time ago. Perhaps with all of us using 511 or googling we can find out about it! (I%26#39;d ask my frined but she%26#39;s out of town!)

Well, you got my curiosity up and I looked it up - yo u would take BART to the EL Cerrito station where you can catch the #42 Golden Gate Transit bus, which will take you into San Rafael. For more info to help you get to your actual location in Marin you can check out the Golden Gate Transit website.
