My husband and I are taking a trip from SF to Burbank (for OU football game in Rose Bowl) and are looking for a clean, neighborhood, not so expensive hotel for two nights. Will have a car...free parking would be a plus...and good access to wharf, ferry to Alcatraz, Sausalito, etc. would be good. Want to go a little ';cheaper'; here as we want to splurge in Monterey and further down coast later in the week. Any suggestions? A feel for the neighborhoods rather than chain hotels in our intent...
clean, budget hotels in San FranciscoSounds like you should target the Lombard Street area for proximity to the Wharf, Alcatraz, and Sausalito. The ';San Francisco at the Presidio Travelodge'; at 2755 Lombard Street has gotten good reviews and it%26#39;s a few blocks away from the major traffic. Be careful to choose the right Travelodge; the city is full of small Travelodges, and a couple are in awful neighborhoods.
Further away from the sites you want to visit, but in interesting neighborhoods are the Laurel Inn (in Laurel Heights, near California Street) and Beck%26#39;s Motor Lodge (in the gay Castro neighborhood).
In Monterey, the Best Western Monterey Inn at 825 Abrego Street is a good deal.
clean, budget hotels in San FranciscoTry the Buena Vista Motor Inn on Lombard St. I stayed there once when I was a tourist (10 years ago!), and the current reviews on this website seem to give it a ';thumbs up'; for the most part. It offers free parking, which is one of the things you were looking for.
We stayed at the Nob Hill Motor Inn and were very content. It%26#39;s a simple motel room but it was clean and they offer free parking.
The bus and cable car were easy to get to.
Thanks for the info....does anyone know anything about the Columbus Motor Inn?
Have you checked out the reviews on this site on Columbus Motor Inn? We will be staying there next week for 3 days, I%26#39;ll let you know how it is. Based on the reviews it seems to be half way decent.
Cathys....I went ahead and made a reservation at Columbus Motor Inn based on reviews...I WOULD be interested in hearing your opinions after actually staying there.....Thanks!
Sure, I%26#39;d be happy to give my opinion on the Motel. We selected it due to free parking. We originally had booked with Holiday Inn Express, but found out how much parking was and decided we rarther spend our hard earned money elsewhere.
My wife and I are staying at the Columbus Motor Inn for four nights in September. I chose it based on price, location and free parking. It also is rated 3 stars by AAA and has received marvelous reviews on Trip Advisor. I figure that the AAA was a good double check of its%26#39; quality.
Try the Castle Inn on Broadway between Van Ness and Polk Street. Free parking, refrigerater in room along with a microwave. We stayed there end of July and could not have been happier. The rates are very, very reasonable.
Rooms are very clean and there is a continental breakfast in the morning with yogurt, muffins, juice, danish and fruit.
We found it checking out the reviews here on trip advisor and consistantly it got great reviews.
Have a great trip and feel free to email with any questions. badlands629@comcast.net
You could pay $60-100 for the cheapo motels on Lombard, or you could go a priceline and get a much better 3* hotel for $50 or a really nice 4* for $75. The downside is that it is hard to find free parking downtown, though if you are here on a weekend you don%26#39;t have to worry about zone permits (or meters on Sunday).
If you can%26#39;t do priceline then I would consider the Del Sol and
Capri, both of which are a block off Lombard and therefore much more quiet than the other motels (Lombard is a busy Street). I can also recommend the Marina Inn on Lombard. All 3 are in the Marina Cow Hollow neighborhood which has many great restaurants and good access to the places you mention.
December is usually pretty cheap in SF, particularly around the holidays, so you shouldn%26#39;t have too much trouble finding a place.
