travel worries about Sheraton

I am travelling with my husband, mother, mother in law, sister in law, nephew (14), son (11.5) and daughter (will be 6) in December. We have prepaid for the sheraton for 11 days 924 november - 4 december 2005). I am now worried about the state of accommodation at the sheraton.

Five years ago we stayed at the carosel (husband, and two children) which was great. Can anyone assure me that sheraton will be OK? I have read a number of forums and are now terrified about the state of the sheraton.

What else can we do arround disneyland? We would like to go to mexico, la any other suggestions?

Also vegetarian options - any suggestions?

travel worries about Sheraton

We like the Sheraton Anaheim and think its a nice place to stay. I read some of the concerns from recent posts...

1) Shuttle - The shuttle is good and when we were there they arrived and took off when scheduled. It was a great way to get very cloes to Disneyland/California Adventure gates.

2) Car - Some people seemed that they wanted to see more of Southern California and found transportation to be an issue if they did not have a car. This will be the case in almost all of LA independent of hotel choice. As such, highly recommend having a car if you plan to venture beyond the park.

3) Another person complained that the hotel was in Disneyland and he wanted to do Long Beach - well.....that was an issue where a little research would have worked much better.

If doing Long Beach, stay in Long Beach. If doing Disneyland, stay in Disneyland.

4) The food at the Sheraton is quite good; the ART (Anaheim Resort Transit is good in the area), and the shuttle runs till Downtown Disney closees (not just the parks.) Lots of restaurants at Downtown Disney.

5) We have found the staff to be very friendly and courteous and when we had a problem they comped us half our room rate. (Note: this was for a minor 10 minute issue which they apologized for and sent the manager with us to resolve.)

I guess its how you address the issue - but we found them very friendly.

6) The rooms - they have lots of different room sizes here so can make a difference. What type of room did you book as it does make a difference?

7) Since it is an older hotel - the rooms are large (we had a king and 2 queens another time) and the bathrooms are small - meaning when they built the hotel, bathrooms in general were built to be functional (not glamourous as more of the recent bathrooms are.) So, if you want a glamourous bathroom, this is not the place. We had no drainage issues in our bathrooms and they were well maintained.

8) The pool depends - It will be busy over Thanksgiving (November 24-27) but you%26#39;ll basically have it to yourself afer the holidays.

9) Food is good - but it only serves until 11:00 a.m. Spaghetti Junction across the street has great spaghetti - cheap prices.

If you have a car, food is NOT an issue at all.%26#39;

10) They have great koi fish, nice gardens, and feels different than Disneyland - which is nice after riding all day.

11) The one thing I will mention - Pay close attention when they say how to find the room. It is a bit confusing and I%26#39;ve gotten lost a time or two...nothing major, but it can happen

so pay attention when checking into the hotel. (i.e. some hotels I sort of fall asleep as I just go to the floor and follow the signs...here pay attention.)

12) Access to I-5 if you have a car absolutely IDEAL.

13) We found temperature control in our room -ok (a little different than most but could control to a limited extent.)

That is different than some motels...but quieter. The beds are

indeed comfortable and we always comment on how comfortable.

Hope that helps...if you have more questions, please ask.

We liked this place but its a good place to have a hotel/car combo. or just be going to hotel/shuttle/park area.

Regardless of what you hear about the Sheraton, don%26#39;t worry. all of these hotels haev negative reviews because we are ALL opinionated people. If my waters drips all night, it won%26#39;t bother me, but another traveler would become so frustrated he may ask for another room. The Sheraton is a TRUSTED name. Stay there!

Most of all, say your prayers BEFORE you leave and your trip will be blessed by God. Trust in the Lord with all thine heart and lean not to your own understanding.

We (family of 4 including 2 teenagers) stayed at the Sheraton in July/August last year. We couldn%26#39;t fault it - we thought it was a lovely hotel. Our room was huge, the courtesy bus to Disneyland was excellent and the food was very good. We are planning to return to Anaheim next year and we wouldn%26#39;t even consider another hotel.

Well I do feel relieved now thank you all for your suggestions.

If you have a car, the I%26#39;d also recommend heading out to Newport Beach and Balboa Island for a nice daytrip. It%26#39;s a lovely old beach community, very popular in the summer for holidaymakers, but in December the crowds would be far less. Further south from there, but only a little futher, is Laguna Beach, a nice little seaside town in an absolutely beautiful setting, as different to Newport Beach as it can be. You might also consider a daytrip to Catalina Island, 26 miles offshore, though I am not sure what that is like in December.

The Bowers Museum in old Santa Ana, near Anaheim, is a great local museum (they currently have a wonderful mummy exhibit which complements the more famous King Tut show that is currently here in Los Angeles).

The Orange County Performing Arts Centre and the Irvine Barclay Center are two local venues for music, theatre and ballet, and both are near to Anaheim, if you%26#39;d fancy an eveing out.

Have a wonderful trip regardless fo where you go!
