Nightlife around Union Square

Hi there,

We%26#39;re going to arrive in SF on a Saturday from Europe so we really need to stay up to fight the jet lag.

Are there any good bars, restaurants, clubs, anything around our hotel (union square) that will be exciting enough to keep us awake?

Thanks!!

There are 2 that I can think of, but they will both be really crowded on a Saturday night. The Starlight Room at the top of the Sir Francis Drake hotel is very nice, not very loud, but live dance music. This is a very fancy bar, so a shower and change of clothes would be absolutely necessary. You probably won%26#39;t be able to get in without a reservation on a Saturday night. Here%26#39;s the web site

and the phone number (415) 395-8595 but they won%26#39;t answer the phone until at least 6 pm PDT.

The other that comes to mind is Ruby Skye, but I%26#39;v enever been there. It%26#39;s supposed to be nice, maybe you can find out more at their web site

or someone else here will know more about it.

Can%26#39;t think of anything else right now. Where are you staying? Most hotels have at least a bar, although some are more lively than others.

Ruby Skye is a great club if you are into the music. Saturdays they usually have guest DJs from around the world: House, Progressive, Trance, etc. It%26#39;s a large dance club with a mixed crowd. I haven%26#39;t been for a year but in the last 5 years it hasn%26#39;t changed much. The crowd is usually mid-late 20s and 30s.

Johnny Foley%26#39;s on O%26#39;Farrell at Cyril Magning Street (one block south and a half block east of the Union Square corner of Geary and Mason) also books some music acts, though probably not the caliber of Ruby Skye. But it%26#39;s a nice, informal pub place.

Ruby Skye is AWESOME...

And The Starlight Lounge is pretty cool as well.

The Top of the Mark (in the Mark Hopkins hotel) is wonderful as far as the view goes, but there are better places to spend time if you ask me --it%26#39;s also overpriced, but does have a fairly good martini bar.
