Exploratorium- how young?

Thanks to everyone for all the advise along the way - our last day is tomorrow ... is the exploratorium a good choice for a 3 year old and 6 year old. I%26#39;ve looked it up but have not seen a mention of appropriate ages.

Other options Golden Gate park - thoughts?

thanks

Exploratorium- how young?

Have you gone to Yerba Buena Gardens yet? There%26#39;s a Merry go Round and playground there. Exploratorium is fun, though, and I think it can be enjoyed by many different ages. There%26#39;s also a children%26#39;s Discovery museum at Ft. Baker across the GG Bridge.

In GG PArk there is a Merry Go Round an playground at the Eastern end, and Stow Lake is also fun - you can rent boats there. Probably pretty cold and foggy out there, though.

Thanks macjack -

We did go to Yerba Buena Gardens and the kids loved it! The bus (not even the cable cars - the bus no less!) and the playgrounds seem to be the biggest hit of the trip!

We have the Fire Truck Tour in the afternoon and are trying to figure out the morning. Maybe the GG park is the way to go ...

Obviously it depends on the child but I would think 3 is probably a bit too young to enjoy Exploratorium. We visited when my son was 9 and then again this year when he was 11 and he loved it but some of the stuff may not be of interest to a 3 year old. The GG park sounds like a good option though, the playground is excellent and we spent a very happy afternoon there.

We were up there with out 3 %26amp; 7 year old in June. We skipped the Exploraorium as many of the activities seemed to be geared towards school age kids and not toddlers. We will definately go next time we visit though as it looks very impressive.

Kids loved the Firetruck Tour, the Cable Cars, the f-line Trolley, Chinatown, Dim Sum %26amp; the Cable Car Barn.

They also really enjoyed Ghiradelli for hot fudge Sundays in the afternoon. The double decker merry go round at Pier 39 and the Sea Lions.

My 3 and 6 year old both like the Science Center in LA. I say, go for it.

It really depends on your child, but I would say most of the exhibits would be better understood by kids over 6. My kids went there for the first time when they were 7 and 8 and had a good time, but enjoy it even more now that they are a couple of years older. That%26#39;s not to say a 3 year old couldn%26#39;t play with some of the stuff, but the focus is on a fun way to learn and I think that most of that would be lost on a younger child.

I think your kids are probably too young. You might want to try the Discovery museum in Sausalito (across GG Bridge.)

We decided to spend our morning with a yummy breakfast at Pat%26#39;s Cafe ( on Taylor) and then took the F-train to Chinatown where we spent the morning shopping and checking out the Fortune Cookie factory and Cable car museum then it was back to the Cannery for some great music by John Howard and off to the Fire Truck ride.

thanks for the suggestions and it looks like we need to come back to hit the exploratorium in a few years so the kids can both get a lot out of it.
