European Hostel in San Francisco

I%26#39;m visiting San Francisco in September, and I was thinking of staying at the European Hostel which is located in SOMA area. Does Anybody know anything about that part of the city? Is it safe, and maybe something about the hostel?

thanks

It%26#39;s an OK section of SOMA. It%26#39;s on Minna Street between 8th and 9th, which isn%26#39;t fabulous and isn%26#39;t horrible. Minna is a narrow street that runs parallel to the main streets of Mission and Howard streets. You%26#39;ll be able to easily walk to the F line streetcar that goes to Fishermans Wharf and the Castro, plus and the #14 Mission bus. You will need to keep your city radar on at night. Minna can seem a little lonely in the dark. There are other hostels in livelier sections of town, including Fort Mason (advertised as Fishermans Wharf). The European Hostel, because of location, wouldn%26#39;t be my first choice. I%26#39;m not familiar with the relative amentities of the hostels in the city, however, to know how to discriminate among them, other than location.

Thanks for your response.

European Hostel wasn%26#39;t really my first pick, it%26#39;s just that Fisherman%26#39;s Wharf was booked on the days that I%26#39;ll be there, and I was trying to come up with an cheap alternative.

Any parts of San Francisco that I should avoid?

There are other hostels in what I would think are better locations, frankly. Check out this site:

I and others also shared a few general comments about locations of some of these hostels in a previous post on the San Francisco forum. If you do a keyword search for ';hostels'; you should find it.
