Can anyone please offer any advice on staying at Yosemite during the middle of October.
I will be driving up from LA but on the way I%26#39;m also hoping drive along the coast to visit Carmel and Big Sur.
How long would the drive be across from here to Yosemite.
Thanks in advance.

Itt;s about 5.5 hours driving time from Carmel to Yosemitie Valley

Yosemite in mid-October should be wonderful. The weather can be iffy, but it%26#39;s usually pleasant, especially so in the Yosemite Valley. If you plan on staying in or near the valley, you%26#39;ll want to make reservations in advance--you just never know. The waterfalls won%26#39;t be as full as they are in spring and early summer, but there was so much snow I wouldn%26#39;t be surprised if they%26#39;re still going pretty good. Take lots of film or be ready to snap a lot of digital photos--you%26#39;re in for the visual treat of a lifetime!
If the weather holds up and you have time, I recommend driving beyond the valley and up towards Tuolumne Meadows for a true high country experience. It should be uncrowded, but note that it is mountain driving and about 70 or so miles to go all the way across the park. To enjoy the sights and take your time, you%26#39;ll want to plan a whole day so get an early start. If you make it all the way to Tioga and Ellery Lakes, be sure to take your fishing gear if you are so inclined. Excellent trout fishing!
Have a great time!

Do you know of any particarly good places to stay or head for within Yosemite?
SKees,
All reservations inside Yosemite are handled by one concessionaire. Start at this web site and choose your preferred lodging. http://www.yosemitepark.com/#
There are a variety of places to choose from. Just be aware that the Wawone is not in Yosemite valley, it%26#39;s about an hour south of the valley. Curry Village, the Lodge and the Awahnee are all in the valley.

Thanks I%26#39;ll give it a go
Be sure to check the reviews of various hotel options within the park at this site before you decide. I%26#39;d avoid anywhere that gets a lot of negative comments. If you can afford the Ahwanee I%26#39;d go there first. Curry Village has some good accommodations. Use the website that a previous poster provided and make sure that the place you want to stay has openings on the dates of your trip--I started looking for a room at the Ahwanee last January for a stay at the end of May and everything was sold out.
