I%26#39;ll be in San Dimas in mid Aug. for 2 weeks. Days will be filled with work but would love some ideas on what to do on nights and weekends like beaches, shopping, galleries, restaurants and bar recomendations. I hear the weather will be quite hot. Is it too hot for tennis or do things cool down in the evening? Thanks in advance for any advice.
Stuff to do near San Dimas
San Dimas is in the warm area of Los Angeles so do plan on it being a bit hot.... There is a Raging Waters in the area...
If you have a car, treat the 210 freeway as your friend and you%26#39;ll find lots of fun things to do.....
First, old town Pasadena is a great place to go. Lots of things to do - http://www.oldpasadena.com/
Next place is Arcadia which is 14 miles away. You%26#39;ll find a good mall here (including several restaurants and amusement areas). Also in this area is Huntington Drive which has lots of restaurants, bars, etc. The shopping area in Arcadia is Westfield Mall. it also has a Dave and Busters.
Monrovia downtown is also nice - 13 miles away. On Friday nights this is a fun place to go with their restaurants, farmers market, and entertainment.
To the east is Ontario with Ontario Mills Shopping - about 14 miles from there.

In the evenings things usually cool down and you can enjoy tennis and things unless one of the major heat waves comes through (usually this is in synch with the Santa Ana winds).
If you get to hot about an hour drive you%26#39;ll get to Laguna Beach, Newport Beach, and Huntington Beach. And of course Disneyland, Knotts, etc. are all about an hour drive to the south...and to the west Hollywood, LA Dodger games, etc.
To the east in about 90 minutes you%26#39;ll be to Palm Springs...
so I think your week-ends will be quite easy to fill....
In addition, Irwindale Raceway is by Arcadia/Monrovia area and easily accessible on Freeway 210.
Lots of other things to do in this area.....just a few to mention for now.
210 is a nice freeway to drive by itself.....from LA to San Dimas area and make these stops at the various areas...
Stuff to do near San DimasMini has given some great ideas for the San Dimas area. It is a really nice area and can%26#39;t believe it has grown through the years.
There%26#39;s also the Bonelli park right next to Raging Waters, which has a lake there and a recreation area. Really nice park. In San Dimas, there%26#39;s a nice little Italian restaurant there called Cafe Alegro. Great little Italian restaurant in old town San Dimas. If we stop by in San Dimas, we always make a point to stop by this restaurant, and it%26#39;s pretty popular, as there%26#39;s always a wait to have dinner there.
You%26#39;re near many places with interesting neighborhoods. For example, for great authentic Chinese food, go to Rowland Heights. It has some great Chinese restaurants retail stores and supermarkets, even better than in Chinatown. I love the mango shaved ice in the area, especially on a hot day. The weather in San Dimas is hot during the summer, but cools down during the evening.
Cafe Allegro actually has a La Verne address, which is a neighboring community near San Dimas. Worth a visit if you can go.
Thanks so much to each of you. My trip has been delayed by a month but I will certainly follow your advice and suggestions when I arrive.
